5 Ways T-Shirts Can Fight Climate Change

There’s no denying that climate change is a hot topic these days. Some folks find it an issue close to their hearts while others will try and have you believe it doesn’t exist! It’s something that affects each one of us, and if we don’t all do something about it, life as we know it might not exist. Or we might have to live on another planet!

So, what are the best ways to help fight climate change? One of the easiest ways is through the T-shirts you wear, believe it or not! Check out these five fantastic examples to find out how you can do your bit:

1. BUY ORGANIC T-SHIRTS

You might not realise it, but the T-shirts you wear have a big impact on climate change. Did you know that, on average, it can take around 2,700 litres of fresh water to make a single T-shirt? That’s quite shocking, don’t you think?

Organic T-shirts are a good way of helping to fight climate change. As the term might suggest, organic farming methods get used to produce the cotton needed. That means no dodgy chemicals like pesticides and herbicides get used. And up to 60% less water is needed, compared to traditional farming methods.

2. RECYCLE T-SHIRTS

Let’s face it; at some point, your T-shirts will no longer be in a good condition due to wear. You might think that your old tees are only fit for the bin. But, there’s still plenty of life left in them if you put them to good use elsewhere!

For example, you can use them around the house as cleaning and dusting cloths. You could repurpose them into things like duvet covers, pillows and even handbags. Defy convention by upcycling them into dinner table napkins and placemats. The possibilities are endless!

3. DON’T BE A T-SHIRT HOARDER

Some people have scores of T-shirts in their wardrobes at home and only wear them once or twice. As you can imagine, that doesn’t do the climate change cause any good! Instead of collecting a mountain of tees you seldom wear, only buy a few and wear them regularly. Not only are you being more eco-friendly, you’re also saving a big wedge of cash too!

4. BUY T-SHIRTS PRINTED WITH WATER-BASED INK

Do you know much about the T-shirt manufacturing process? If not, here’s a shocking fact for you: conventional screen printing uses things like PVC and toxic solvents! Obviously such screen printing methods are harmful to the environment and the people involved in the manufacturing process. You can help fight climate change by only purchasing T-shirts made with water-based ink.

If more people bought such tees, there would be greater demand for that greener screen printing method. And that means companies that mass-produce T-shirts are more likely to ditch the toxic printing processes.

5. EXPRESS YOUR OPINION ON CLIMATE CHANGE USING YOUR T-SHIRT

Sometimes you need to make a bold statement to get others thinking more about climate change. You can do this with your T-shirt! Your tee is, in essence, a mobile advertising medium. Get others to think more about how they impact the environment around us by expressing your opinion on climate change.
