Here at Wellcoda we happen to give a damn about the city who we serve. We now send our quirky garments around the globe, and so we wanted to share a little about each place we have come to know and love.

First up, let’s take a quick look at Edinburgh, our home, and what it means to the fashion world.

 

PROFILE OF EDINBURGH

If you haven’t been to Edinburgh, what the hell have you been doing with your life? This city is pretty damn amazing, and you need to know about it. With dramatic, traditional buildings and cobbled streets, Edinburgh is a classic city. As the capital of Scotland, you might imagine that this place would be impressive, and you’d be right. With towering buildings and unique features, the city is a hub for business, trading and culture. Walk along the streets of this area, and you will see many young people. The centre of town attracts a load of intriguing and fascinating characters. From indie kids to hipsters, the pop culture scene here is alive and well.

 

FAMOUS PEOPLE OF EDINBURGH

Think you don’t know anyone from this city? Think again! There are more famous people who hail from Edinburgh than you could count on your fingers and toes. Here in this city, we’re proud of the fine talent we’ve sent out into the world. Haven’t we done well, eh? The great man himself, award-winning actor, Sean Connery, grew up in this city. Best known for his role as James Bond, Sean is a hot guy and was also voted People Magazines’ ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ back in 1999. Comedy fans might like to know that we gave the world half of the Two Ronnies. Yes, Ronnie Corbett also comes from Edinburgh. Aside from these two fascinating men, the city has also been the home of many other high-profile people. The likes of Kirsty Gallacher, Ewen Bremner and Brigit Forsyth all come from the Scottish capital. It might even surprise you to learn that the inventor of the Encyclopedia Britannica, Andrew Bell, is Scottish. You guessed it – he also comes from the fine city of Edinburgh.
 

FASHION HISTORY OF EDINBURGH

We’re not all about kilts and bare legs up here, you know! From the dawn of time, Edinburgh has always been famous for its sense of style and fashion. Over the years, there have been many great designers in the city who have created unique and interesting designs. In fact, in 1815, Robert Pringle founded one of the biggest fashion brands ever. Two hundred years later, Pringle of Scotland is one of the best upmarket retailers in the western world. The brand is not alone. There is a multitude of brands that have come from this city, of which we are proud. During the 1950’s and 1960’s, this area become known for its unique take on contemporary style. The birthplace of many cool trends, Edinburgh was always at the forefront of new fashion and trends.

 

FASHION CULTURE IN EDINBURGH

Right now, we are one of the most stylish places in the world – even if we do say so ourselves. And, to prove it to you non-believers, Edinburgh hosts its fashion week in March. There are loads of different styles that you can spot in the city. Young people here tend to wear a load of individual designs. The hipster scene in the city is massive, and so much of the fashion follows that trend. The incredible thing about this cosmopolitan district is the way in which fashion is always changing. Here, there are many chic styles and urban trends that combine to create something original and fresh.
