10 Fascinating facts about animals!

Most of us love animals. In fact, Wellcoda loves them so much that we make a whole bunch of graphic designs dedicated to them. Animals are all beautiful and fascinating creatures in their own way. However, there’s a lot of interesting things about animals that you probably don’t know. Here are ten fascinating facts!

Wolf

Wolves may seem scary, but there’s a lot more to them than meets the eye. When a wolf finds a mate, they usually stay together for life. They are deeply social animals that enjoy making close connections and show affection for their families. They will often sacrifice themselves to protect their beloved unit.

Lion

The male lion is fast and strong, but that’s not all. The male lion’s roar can be heard from 5 miles away. Their roar is used to communicate and claim their territory!

Gorilla

Gorillas are highly intelligent. One ape, Koko, starting learning sign language when she was 1 year old. She could sign 1000 different things by age 40, and understand 2000 human words of English. They are very similar to humans.

Crow

The Raven is 1 type of crow out of 45 different species. The raven can be taught to speak basic human language - as shown in Edgar Allan Poe’s ‘The Raven’. Never more!

Eagle

You may already know that an eagle has incredible eyesight. But do you know just how incredible? It can spot an animal the size of a rabbit up to 2 miles away! This might be because it’s eyes are actually disproportionate to the rest of it. They are very large!

Deer

Male deers are known for their antlers. However, their antlers are nothing like human limbs. They’ll continue to grow new antlers each year!

Elephant

Elephants are the world’s largest animals. But did you know that they absolutely love water? They love to swim in it, dive in it, and even fight the waves. As their joints can come under strain from the sheer weight of them, the water can give them a break.

Bear

Many people don’t realise that bears are as fast as they are. The fastest human alive, Usain Bolt, runs up to 27 miles per hour. Bears can run up to 40 miles per hour, which is fast enough to catch a running horse!

Dolphin

Dolphins are another highly intelligent species, but they are also very caring and selfless. It isn’t unusual to hear stories of dolphins selflessly helping humans and even whales out of trouble.

Giraffe

Can you imagine what it’s like to live off only 10 minutes of sleep? Giraffes can! Don’t feel sorry for them though. They have one of the shortest sleep requirements of any mammal, sleeping anywhere from 10 minutes to 2 hours per day. Of course they do this standing up, like they do just about anything else - even giving birth.
